The Pittsburgh MOB Directory is an ongoing effort to collect information on all of the mom-owned businesses in the city. It is my hope that this project will inspire us all to support the hard work of fellow Pittsburgh mothers!
If you are a Pittsburgh mother and would like to enter your own business, please click “Submit a Listing” below. Note, your listing will need to be approved by an administrator before it will appear in full.
If you are looking for a product or service offered by a Pittsburgh mother, you have several choices. AE Dreams designs children’s products that integrate digital technologies into screen-less toys in order to encourage creative, hands-on playtime.
At AE Dreams, our vision is to provide families with a series of connected toys, games and resources, each inspiring magical interactions and hands-on playtime. Our goal is to create products that are both engaging for children and relatable to parents so that families can have stronger, more meaningful interactions.
AE Dream’s co-founders, Alysia Finger and Niko Triulzi are graduates from Carnegie Mellon with backgrounds in business and design. As parents themselves, they’ve confronted the issues around screen-time far too often. So they set out to create something that would help parents find balance for their children between digital and tangible playtime. After working with dozens of families, AE Dreams has designed Turtle Mail, a product that helps bring children back to the real world.
Turtle Mail is a physical mailbox for kids that allows them to interact with families, friends, and fictional characters, through daily printed messages. It is a connected device that offers the access and convenience of modern technology, without requiring children to use a screen.
Turtle Mail is our first step towards an "Internet of Toys" for children!
KID CITY is Pittsburgh’s premier indie dance party for kids. Led by DJ KellyMom, she spins familiar kid friendly songs. At KID CITY ROCKERS you can dance to your hearts content from artists like; The Cure, Jawbreaker, English Beat, No Doubt, The Ramones, La Tigre, Beastie Boys, New Order, The Clash and The Pogues, to just name a few.
Kelly Day a community leader from The Northside has spent the past 20+ years building up a massive collection of vinyl and the past 3 years building up a collection of children of her own (two boys, Thurston and Winslow). KID CITY ROCKERS was an idea that Kelly had when she was pregnant with her first born. Her dream is to share her love of music with other families in a place where parents and kids can let loose and have a great time. Through the joy of uplifting music and unstructured dance Kelly hopes her dance parties will encourage community amongst the parents and offer a different type of socializing for the kids. Kelly’s DJing experience varies from 4 years at WPTS in the early 90’s, a monthly DJ residency called “Sussidio” at a popular neighborhood bar in Hollywood and appearances at various private parties and clubs throughout Los Angeles. Kelly is also an alum of the DJ Scratch Academy founded by Jam Master Jay of RUN-DMC.
KID CITY ROCKERS is Pittsburgh’s premier indie dance party for kids and Families. Led by DJ KellyMom, she spins familiar kid friendly songs that the parents grew up dancing as well as newly released songs to keep things fresh. We feel that children should not be limited to the music heard in a classroom or typical children’s tv programming. We also believe that parents want to dance with their children outside of their living rooms to good music. At KID CITY ROCKERS you can dance to your hearts content from artists like; The Cure, Jawbreaker, English Beat, No Doubt, The Ramones, La Tigre, Beastie Boys, New Order, The Clash, Bob Marley, Man or Astroman, The Pixies, Cyndi Lauper, The Who, Bow Wow Wow, M.I.A, Hot Hot Heat, Wanda Jackson, White Stripes and The Pogues, to just name a few.
KID CITY ROCKERS is a monthly dance party for the whole family. Once a location has been established a monthly schedule will be announced. We are looking at several time slots during daytime hours over weekends. The dance party will reoccur the same weekend every month for example the first Saturday or the second Sunday of each month.
The location has not yet been determined, but a few things are in the works. We are looking for a space that has a sound system established and something large enough to grow with us as more people feel the need to join in on the fun. A location that can provide food and drink is a bonus. Beer would be a major bonus for those responsible parents. Adults are $5 bucks each, kids are free. (we ask for a 4 kid per adult max.)
Parents seem to go “into hiding” once kids enter the bigger picture. This monthly dance party will serve as a casual and positive event for parents from all over the city to connect and let loose and remember some of their own musical roots. Kids love to spazz out and parents love to watch. A portion of the annual proceeds will be donated to deserving non-profit organizations helping the youth in Pittsburgh’s Northside communities.
We are mindful to the language content in the songs, but the occasional slip is inevitable. There is no chicken dance here unless it’s mixed with Black Sabbath. Bring your whole Birthday Party crew or celebrate holidays with us for special surprises.
*KID CITY ROCKERS can come to you for your own special event.
