I am WELL aware that the ethics of blogging can be a little tricky; however, I am wholeheartedly committed to providing a fair and honest assessment of my experiences for my readers. In the interest of transparency, I have provided my blog’s policies on reviews, giveaways, advertising, and privacy. I have also provided a disclosure statement. Also, let me just add: I am certainly NOT in blogging for the money. I started blogging because I wanted to connect with other parents in the city. I also wanted to connect parents with citywide resources to help them raise their families. I virtually never accept free gifts; however, I do sometimes make some exceptions. I will NEVER let money (or free products, etc) interfere with my honesty though.
The Pittsburgh Mommy Blog may receive products directly from brands, manufacturers, public relations companies, and brand marketing firms. In addition I have been invited to events for free. Complimentary services, gratis products, tickets, and press samples never compromise my coverage of the product or event. I will always cover whatever I receive fairly and honestly. Any advice on this site is the opinion of Pittsburgh Mommy Blog. I am in no way responsible for the effects of my advice and always suggest that my readers decide for themselves.
I virtually never participate in product reviews because I am uncomfortable with the ethical concerns of accepting a product for free and then giving a fair review. Occasionally, however, I choose to review a product that would be of interest to me and my readers. These products must support the overarching theme of my blog.
When I try out a product, I will notify the manufacturer, publisher, press relations company, etc. if I liked the product or not before writing my review. If I do not like the product, I will provide constructive criticism. I will only write a negative review if the company asks me to proceed. If I do like the product, I will write a positive review and publish it to my blog. I MAY receive compensation for some reviews. However, I am never paid in advance and will only bill after a positive review has been submitted.
The Pittsburgh Mommy Blog does participate in giveaways that would be of interest to me and my readers. These giveaways must support the overarching theme of my blog. I NEVER agree to run a giveaway/review simultaneously because I feel it locks me into providing a positive review. First, I will review the product and THEN I will proceed with a giveaway if I feel my readers would like it.
My giveaways are running using Rafflecopter.
I welcome guest posts from my readers; however, these posts are almost exclusively written by Pittsburgh mothers who have a perspective on parenting in the city. If you are somebody besides a Pittsburgh mother, please contact me and I will see if I can make an exception.
I do not post advertisements to my blog. If you are interested in sharing your product or service on my blog, then please contact me about the possibility of doing a guest post about it.
